I walked Via Principalis with purpose. My purpose: to escape. Now that I was co-cohort leader, everyone expected me to be perfect. I needed to get some time to simplify things. My hair was straightened and back in a high pony, to show off the earrings she was wearing. "Brighter than The Sun." was stuck in my head and I was tapping my hand on hip to it's rythm. I began humming it too. I looked down at my feet as I walked. Then, I walked head-first into someone. I fell on the dirt road, hard. I had tried to stop myself with my hands but this just scraped up my palms, which were now bleeding and caked with dirt.

Jake was taking a walk around camp when he walked into someone. It was Jazzy. He instantly blushed, "I- I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to trip you or anything..." he said. He had a crush on her for quite a while and he was sure accidentally getting her palms scraped wouldn't really help at all. She looked beautiful in his eyes, but he would never tell her that to her face. Some people were asying that she was dating a centurion. He was only on the first cohort, not even close to being a centurion.

I instantly realized that I had walked into a boy... a very cute boy... who was in the First Cohort. I was only in Third! I forced myself not to blush. I jumped up and smiled at him. Wait... I knew him! His name was Jake. I had seen him somewhere... but I couldn't remember where. "It's cool. You're... Jake? Right?" I asked, hoping that I was right. I kept my palms away from my clothes, in fear of getting blood on them.

I smiled and nodded. "Yep." I said simply. I shook my head quickly when he offered to take me to the infirmary. "Nah, I'll be fine for now." I said nodding. I noticed that Jake was blushing. Honestly, I thought it was kinda cute. "So, you're in the First Cohort, right?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.

"Yeah. Oh and congrats on winning the cohort elections by the way.” He said, remembering the recent cohort elections. He noticed that he hands were badly scraped. “I can heal that for you if want me to…” he offered. He felt guilty for not watching his step and decided that he should at least offer to help.

I smiled and nodded eagerly. "Yeah, that'd be great!" I said, looking down at my palms. I noticed that a few drops of blood had fallen on the ground. My palms had begun stinging. I tightened my ponytail, carefully trying not to get blood in my hair. I smiled to try to hide the pain on my face.

Jake placed his hands on hers lightly for a few seconds and she was healed. "They should be fine, just try not to scrape them anytime soon..." he said, giving her a nervous laugh. He noticed that she was trying to tie her hair, he felt like helping, but didn't. For reasons such as, it would make him look wierd and other reasons like it would be awkward.

Jake's hands felt warm and welcoming. I smiled. Healing felt amazing! It was like cold water was running down my palm and releasing the stingy feeling I had once felt. I laughed with Jake. "Whoa, that feels awesome." I smiled and nodded. The silence eventually got a bit awkward and I knew I had to say something and fast. But what? I couldn't think of anything! I stared at my feet nervously.

Jake smiled weakly at her comment. "So erm... what were you doing here? Not many people like to hang around in this part of Camp you know" he said nervously, trying not to anger her. He needed to say something at the least. The awkward silence was obviously 'awkward' for both of them.

I smiled weakly at Jake. "Yeah. Um, I guess I was just well... walking." I finished lamely. "How about you?" I asked. I had assumed everyone in the first cohort would be training 24/7. Not that they needed to. I twirled my ponytail and pursed my lips. I smiled and waited for Jake to answer.

"Nothing much, I finished training for the day." he said. He like training when the arena wasn't overcrwoded so he could actually think. But he wasn't one to train much, he preferred to be the one behind the scenes and plotting things instead, but he needed to train once in a while, he just didn't love it. unlike other kids at camp.

I nodded lamely. Gods, why couldn't I think of something to say? This never happened! Jake probably thought I was just another brain-dead barbie doll. I wanted to sigh but I fought the urge and pointed behind me. "Uh, I should probably g-go." My statement sounded oddly like a question. I chewed on my lip some more and started backing away.

Jake looked down at his shoes, "Uh... sure." he said. She was obviously feeling uncomfortable, and he understood. He wanted to actually talk to her sometime, they hadn't talked in forever. The last time he recalled, was when he was 13. Which was who knows how many years ago (Three years ago actually.) He remembered back then they were best friends, but had somehow grew apart after a few years.

Before she could run off, "Uh, would you like to grab a coffee or something sometime?" he asked. "Just as friends." he added, just in case that she had a boyfriend or something. You never knew!

I turned around quickly. My mouth almost drooped open but I stopped it quickly. "I'd love that!" I said happily. Then I turned around and started walking back to the Barracks. I bit my lip thinking about what I would wear. But, then I shook this thought of my head. It wasn't like it would be a date. He had said so himself. Plus, I wasn't even sure if I liked him yet. I mean, back when we were friends I had a huge crush on him. But, it had been so long. He easily could've changed.
